How to play the map quiz

Read the question at the top of the screen, then click the matching country on the interactive world map. A correct answer flashes the country green and plays a short chime; a wrong answer flashes red and tells you which country you actually clicked, so you can try again. Your score, mistake count and progress bar update after every answer, and the quiz ends with a summary of how you did in each region.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries are included?

This map quiz covers 171 countries across five regions: the Americas (North, Central and South), Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Antarctica is not included. A small number of the smallest territories are represented on the map but are not always asked about.

How are country borders shown?

Borders are simplified cartography intended for general education. National borders are political, and some are disputed or subject to change. This map should not be treated as an authoritative depiction of any territory, and it is not suitable for legal, academic or official reference.

Which capitals are used?

Each country is paired with its generally recognised capital city. Where a country has more than one capital, or where the status of a capital is politically sensitive, the quiz uses the most commonly cited answer.
